Rough age and how many. You don’t need serial numbers or specifications — “four laptops, about six years old” is plenty.

Questions people ask us about technology
What happens to my data?
Every drive is wiped to recognized data-sanitization standards before a machine is refurbished or passed on. Drives that can’t be reliably wiped are physically destroyed rather than reused. If you’d prefer to remove the drive yourself first, that’s completely fine — the machine is still useful to us.
Is my computer too old to be useful?
Probably not, though there is a limit. Machines from roughly the last eight years usually have life left in them once refurbished. Older or non-working equipment still has value in parts and responsible recycling, so it’s worth asking rather than binning it.
Do you take equipment that doesn’t work?
Often yes. A dead battery, a cracked screen or a failed drive are all fixable, and a machine that can’t be repaired still yields parts that keep others running. Tell us what’s wrong with it and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth shipping.
Can my business donate a whole office refresh?
Yes, and it’s one of the most useful things we receive. We handle collection, provide documentation for your asset register, and can certify data destruction for your records. Tell us the rough count and timing and we’ll plan around your rollout.
Who pays for shipping?
For a small donation, usually you — but shipping costs you incur to deliver a charitable donation are generally deductible themselves, so keep the receipt. For larger lots and business refreshes we arrange and pay for collection. Ask us either way; we’ll tell you which applies before you spend anything.
What can I deduct?
For most equipment it’s fair market value at the time of donation, which for used technology is well below what you paid. We provide a receipt and the documentation you need. Above $5,000 the IRS requires a qualified independent appraisal, which is the donor’s responsibility — relevant mainly for larger business donations.
