An Empty Resort Balcony At Golden Hour, Two Patio Chairs And A Small Table Facing The Ocean, Seen From Inside The Room

Vacation ownership

The fees end when the ownership transfers.

Donate a timeshare you no longer use and stop paying for a week you never take.

The week you stopped taking still sends a bill every year.

Maintenance fees that rise faster than inflation. A special assessment for a renovation you will never see. An exchange calendar that never has the week you want. Most people who contact us have not used the timeshare in years, and have already found out what it fetches on the resale market.

Donating ends the obligation rather than passing it to your children. You tell us the resort, how the ownership is structured and roughly what the annual fees run. We check what the resort will allow, tell you plainly whether we can take it, and if we can, we prepare the transfer and deal with the management company. Nothing is signed before you know what is involved and what it will cost you.

We take deeded weeks as well as points, club memberships and right‑to‑use contracts, at resorts in the United States and overseas, including Mexico and the Caribbean. Timeshares are harder to place than a house, so each one is reviewed individually. When one works, the proceeds go to programs that rarely have a spare dollar: animal rescues and shelters carrying more intake than funding, and schools and after‑school programs where the shortfall shows up as something a child simply does without.

Once the transfer completes, they stop.

Three things have to be true

No mortgage or finance balance outstanding. Ownership has to transfer clear, the same as a car title.

Maintenance fees and any assessment have to be current before a resort will process a transfer. Arrears are settled by the owner first.

Resorts charge their own transfer or closing fee and it is paid by the donor. We tell you the figure before anything is signed.

Four steps, and we do three of them

The review is quick. The resort transfer is the part that takes as long as it takes.

1

You tell us what you own

Resort, week or points, and what the annual fees run. Your latest statement has all of it on one page.

2

We review it and answer honestly

Within two business days. If the resort makes a transfer impractical we say so, instead of leaving you waiting on a maybe.

3

The transfer runs through the resort

We prepare the paperwork and deal with the management company. You sign, pay the resort’s transfer fee, and we chase the rest.

4

Your paperwork arrives

A receipt for your records, and confirmation that the ownership and the fees are no longer in your name.

Questions people ask us about timeshares

Do you take every timeshare?

No, and we would rather tell you that than waste your time. Resale demand differs enormously between resorts, and some management companies make a transfer to a charity impractical. Send the details and you will get a straight answer within two business days either way.

Can I donate points or a right‑to‑use contract?

Yes. A deeded week is the most straightforward, because it transfers like any other piece of property, but points, club memberships and right‑to‑use contracts are all worth asking about. Each operator has its own transfer rules, so tell us which you hold and we will check what is possible.

What if I’m behind on the maintenance fees?

The account has to be brought current before a transfer can go through, and that is the owner’s responsibility. Resorts will not process a change of ownership on an account in arrears. If you are close to current, tell us where things stand and we will work out the order things need to happen in.

Can I donate one I still owe money on?

Not until the loan is paid off and released. Ownership has to transfer free and clear. If you are near the end of the finance term, talk to us about timing so the transfer can start as soon as the balance clears.

What can I actually deduct?

A timeshare donation is deducted at the fair market value of the interest you are giving, and it is the donor who establishes that value, not us. Be realistic: market value reflects what the interest is worth today, which for most resorts is well below the original purchase price. Above $5,000 the IRS requires a qualified independent appraisal, which is the donor’s responsibility and cannot be arranged or paid for by Giving Center. Our tax deduction page walks through how the rules apply.

How long does the transfer take?

You hear from us within two business days. The transfer itself moves at the resort’s pace, and it varies too much between management companies for a published timeframe to be worth anything, so we give you an estimate for your specific resort instead. Your fee obligation ends when the transfer completes.

Timeshare Donations

Our dedicated timeshare site covers the ground this page does not — resort‑by‑resort notes, a glossary of the terms that appear in your contract, and what happens to a week after it is donated. How timeshare donations work, resort by resort

You don’t need it to donate. The form on this page starts everything, and our team handles it from there.
